The W1700 comes fully loaded with true 8.3 megapixel true UHD 4K resolution.

  • CinematicColor™ accuracy, and projection-optimized HDR for stunning true-to-life image quality.
  • 4K is TRUE addressable on a per pixel basis not enhanced.

So now you have a choice, get true 4K or get the most accurate colours possible for around the same price.
You can have both but then you're looking at a higher price for say the BenQ X12000.

Your decision may be related to the amount of 4K content you have or want to watch.

Be aware however that from normal cinema seating distances it's very hard to tell the difference from HD 1080P and 4K content.
Note the image below, zoomed in to show the difference, how will you do that during a movie?

The point is if you need 4K here you have it with the W1700 (or TK800 very similar tuned more for sports/gaming) at a great price. If you're not that fussed about 4K (check out this video review on the limitations of 4K vision) why not consider projector models have full Rec. 709 or THX (i.e. W8000)  because at any distance better colours are perceivable.

With the more up market 1080P (THX / Full Rec.709) home cinema projector models there is no need for a (say) 5cm over-scan border around the image either.

Just a word on Contrast Ratio.

The most expensive "Cutting Edge" professional projectors Epson make are now quoted at just 2,500:1 and 1,200:1 contrast, so you make up your mind how on earth they can quote say 500 times as much on their home cinema projectors.
Bull Dust we say, more on the front page.

Notice there is no word "Enhanced" in the 4K logo! It's TRUE 4K. Review

Powered by ultimately durable Digital Light Processing, the 2015 Academy Award of Merit Oscar ® winning technology used in 90% of the world’s digital cinemas, W1700 delivers long-lasting picture quality with precise colors and razor-sharp clarity without maintenance or degradation.

In our review we've found that the W1700 is suited better to projection onto a darker coloured wall than a projection screen saving you even more money. The reason for this is the chip is actually larger than a 1080 chip (multiplexed x 4 for 4k) so there will be a few CM light ("over scan") border around the 4K image.  Some TVs have light emitted from behind to make viewing easier on the eyes this may be a good thing for BenQ even though it may be hard to see on a darker screen/wall. In any case it's really no different in principal than when a 16:10 aspect ratio projector is used for 16:9 which happens all the time. On the other hand you may not even notice it as the BenQ has very good black levels and we were just trying to find one thing we could point out as a possible negative, which is hard to do considering the bargain price. - AIM
