16:9 means there are 16 units of width and 9 of height. On old 4:3 TV screens you may have for example 1m wide x .75m high or in the case of a projection screen say 2m wide x 1.5m high, the aspect ratio is fixed to 4 x 3 units of any size. Coming soon 16:9 Sanyo Z800 Projector. When films are cut down to 4:3 from wide screen formats you always lose some of the information, what you lose depends on the editor.
